Ivy Lane Books began as a dream at a weekend market stall—a small collection of secondhand finds and new releases, carefully chosen and lovingly displayed. We discovered quickly that people didn't just want to buy a book; they wanted to sit with it, flip through the pages, maybe ask a question or two about what we were reading.

That simple observation shaped everything that followed. What started as a folding table at the farmer's market grew into a proper shop, and then into the space you see today: shelves full of new releases alongside our carefully sourced secondhand collection, and a quiet reading room where you can settle in with a pot of tea and see whether a book is truly the one for you before you take it home.

We've never wanted Ivy Lane to feel like a transaction. It's meant to be a destination—a place where the rhythm slows down, where browsing is encouraged, and where a conversation about books is never an interruption.

We built the reading room because customers kept asking for the same thing: a quiet place to sit. Some wanted to try a book before committing. Others simply needed an hour away from the world, with the reassurance of a good book and a cup of tea within arm's reach.

The reading room is never meant to feel like a shop. It's a genuine refuge—comfortable chairs, good light, a proper kettle, and the knowledge that you can stay as long as you like. You can bring a book from our shelves or come with one of your own. You can read in silence or strike up a conversation with whoever's sitting nearby. It's entirely up to you.

For us, it's the natural extension of what Ivy Lane has always been: a place where reading matters, and time spent with a book is honoured above rushing through a sale.
